The 1999 SKUSA World Finals were held in Norman Oklahoma on September 24th thru 26th. There were no classes for drivers Justin or Jimmy Moon to participate in however driver Benny Moon (left)ran in the Jr. 80 Shifter class. This was the final race in a series of professionaly run Shifter Kart races held accross the country. Ben and his lone crew member and mechanic ( Dad ) made the trip alone to Norman Oklahoma. Motor sponsor Power Works was in attendance and owner Joey Whittsen lended some welcome assistance.
After posting the fastest times in fridays practice on his Margay chassis Ben qualified third on saturday.
In the first heat Ben made contact with a slower moving Kart with motor problems and was not able to complete even one lap. His mechanic and Joey made some quick repairs to the damaged front end of the Kart in time for the start of the second heat where Benny finshed third.
Sunday was a winner take all 20 lap Main event. Ben started fifth and posted the fastest lap of the race while climbing to second on lap seven. Ben tried hard lap after lap to make a clean pass on the first place Kart of Alex Speed but just didn't have enough to take the lead. He finished a strong second. Driver Kyle Wharf from Florida finished third. This was Benny's fourth shifter race and felt that second was a respectable finish.
