On Monday December 20th, in freezing cold temperatures (27% at 12:00 noon) Justin tested with Gelles Racing in Savannah Georgia. Although the sun was shining it was way cold! When Justin came in from the first on track session he jumped out of the Formula BMW and ran for the rental car. Shaking his hands and wincing with pain he held his hands in front of the heater vents trying to thaw them out. After lining his gloves with some plastic glove liners Justin headed back on to the track and continued his dominating pace. Justin had started the day at 2 to 3 seconds faster than any of the 4 additional drivers including the teams invited test driver and he continued that pace for most of the day. This was the first time Justin had driven the Formula BMW in dry conditions since taking the licensing course in Spain last summer. His previous test experience with Pole Vision had been at Taledaga in a full day of rain! Justin managed to run consistant fast laps all day at the track in Savannah until the last session when one of the other drivers Robert Wickens had newer tires installed and ripped off a lap which was 2/10ths faster than Justin's fastest.
Justin is hoping to win one of the scholarships being offered by BMW during the shoot out in January! He is actively looking for additonal funding through sponsors to run the entire Formula BMW season. The series runs with Champ Car at many of their events in front of thousnads of fans. If you or someone you know might be interested in helping Jusitn and receiving sponsorship benefits with Formula BMW and Justin's team please contact Dean Moon at dmoon2@earthlink.net.
Next up is the Skip Barber kartin runoffs at Laguna Seca in Monterey January 7th, 8th and 9th, folowed by the Formula BMW runoffs in Valencia Spain!
