On October 18th driver Benny Moon finished third at the 1999 Gear Box Grand Nationals. The Nationals were held this year at Willow Springs on the .9 mile Streets of Willow track. One hundred and forty entrants participated in the weekend event. The competition was stiff with a Jr. 80cc field of 21 racers. With a time of 57.7 Ben was the fastest during friday practice until an upper rod bearing let go and he was sidelined with motor problems. After repairs his Margay Brava 1 could not reach the 57s again.
Saturdays temps were warm and the track conditions were difficult for many teams to dial in. Benny qualified 3rd, and finished 5th in the pre final.
After a night of changes and preparation Sunday brought in the winds. Ben's mechanic (Dad) struggled to find the right setup due to his lack of experience with the Margay chassis. Despite a damaged motor and an exhausted mechanic Ben still did well finishing a respectable third out of twenty-one.
The teams next race will be November 7th at Prairie city in Sacramento were drivers Jimmy and Justin Moon will race the final club race of the year. Then it's the SKUSA Shifter Nationals in Las Vegas on November 12th, 13th and 14th
