After being chosen as one of 16 kart drivers participating in the Barber CART scholarships Benny was awarded a race weekend to ready himself. He made the most of the opportunity choosing to participate in the December Skip Barber Regional race at Laguna Seca. The weekend was made up of two main events. Qualifying 2nd out of 14 on Saturday in wet conditions the Saturday main event was looking good. As the field rolled on to the straight away the green flag flew and Ben put the pedal down. The entire field seemed to drive around Ben as they approached the bridge over the straight. As they went into turn 2 Benny was in 7th. He drove a nice race working hard to finish in 3rd. After the race the Skip Barber crew checked out Bens car and found it to be significantly down on power. Atempts were made to tune the motor in on Sunday morning but without succses. Ben was given a different car for the Sunday event. The diference was obvious as this time when the green flew he moved from 3rd to 2nd and began pulling away from the rest of the field. Running in 3rd was the points leader/track favorite/Skip Barber mechanic. He eventualy caught and passed Benny and the first place car. Ben finished in 3rd and had improved on his lap times with every lap.
Benny heads to Sebring Florida for the Barber CART run offs January 6th. Then he's off to Italy to tour the European Kart and Motor factories.
