The 2003 SKUSA Super Nationals has been described by drivers, fans, and journalists as the biggest shifter kart event ever! SKUSA did put on the best event the Moon Racing team has been to. The 72 kart "Super Pro" field was full of the top shifter kart dirvers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Italy, and around the world, including 2003 Toyota Atlantic Champion A. J. Almendinger, SKUSA Champions Ron White and Alex Speed, Toyota Atlantic Lynx Racing driver Michael Valiente, and Stars Champ Bobby Wilson.
PTK Moon Racing driver Benny Moon began by qualifying an impressive 6th out fo the 72 kart field. He then went on to finish 3rd in his heat race. While many of the top drivers were struggeling to make it into the final 40 kart field Benny was doing great! At the start of the main Benny started 6th and was pushed wide in turn one. Droping back to 10th Ben began moving up through the field. He had made it back up to 6th when with 4 laps to go another driver misjudged his braking point and crashed into the rear of Benny's kart. Benny spun but kept his kart going and continued on. He finished in 10th place which was quite impressive considering the spin.
PTK driver Justin Moon ran the ICC S1 class. This was Justin's first "big" race since the move up from Jr. 80. Justin qualified 6th out of 42 and finihed 3rd in the heat race. He was in 4th in the main event with just 3 laps to go when his clutch began to slip eventualy failing causing him to pull out of the race. Still it was an impressive run and Justin is looking forward to S1 in 2004!
