On Sunday August 8th Benny drove to a hard fought 1st place in the last race of the 2004 Skip Barber Formula Dodge Series. During the weekend Road America hosted the Champ Cars as well as Toyota Atlantics, Trans-Am, Formula BMW, and the Formula Dodge finale! Benny qualified nicely for the Saturday race by putting his Formula Dodge on the front row in 2nd position. During the race he felt his car was a little down on power and sliped backwards to 5th. During the checkered flag lap Ben tried an outbraking manouver in "Canada Corner" which caused him to spin. He ended up 12th.
Sunday was a new day. Benny qualified 6th but new he had a better car and made plans for the main event. During the 12 lap event around the high speed 4 mile road course there were an amazing amount of passes and a spectacular display of driving skill showm between the top 6 drivers. Benny went from 6th to 4th to 2nd to 5th to 3rd and that was just during lap 5. Benny tried to position himself in the top 3 with two laps to go. He managed to be in 2nd during that lap and made a pass for first during the white flag lap. " I new I could pass in turn 1 and was trying to drive as perfectly as I could. Fortunately I pulled a slight gap away from 2nd place and was able to finish in 1st place!"
Numerous people still at the fence after the Champ Car race stayed to watch the young guns and many were heard commenting on what a great race it was!
After a hard fought season Benny Moon finished 4th in the Formula Dodge season just one point out of 3rd, and only 16 out of 1st! Benny wishes to thank all his friends and supporters for all there encouraging emails and words of wisdom all season.
